We Keep Beginning: An Anthology on Process
Client: The Seventh Wave
Role: Art Direction, Design, Illustration
The Seventh Wave is an arts and literary nonprofit that invites writers, artists, activists, and creators to engage in conversations surrounding the most pressing social issues of our times. To celebrate their fifth anniversary, TSW asked 26 writers and artists across 10 issues about the conditions they require to create. "This anthology, We Keep Beginning, pulls back the curtain on creativity, and shines light on what it means to be an artist today, but most importantly, what makes these artists keep beginning." -TSW
The goal was to produce a book that felt celebratory, let the contributor's voices breathe, and remind people of art's power.
I created an editorial piece that honored the diversity of voices by using different illustration styles for all seven chapters. Each chapter is distinctive by the artwork of contributor's quotes and, at the same time, cohesive because of the color palette used throughout the book.
This anthology allows readers to engage in conversations both with the contributors and themselves about the creative process. I wanted this book to feel human, accessible, and textured.
